Staff Profiles

garyGARY COHEN is the Executive Director. He served for many years as the Executive Director of the National Toxics Campaign Fund and is a founder of the Military Toxics Project. Cohen has been working on environmental health issues for 20 years and has published numerous articles on environmental issues including “Beyond the Chemical Century: Restoring Human Rights and Preserving the Fabric of Life.” He is the author of Fighting Toxics (Island Press, 1990) and of the groundbreaking report, “The U.S. Military’s Toxics Legacy.”

Cohen is presently Co-Executive Director of Health Care Without Harm, the collaborative campaign for environmentally responsible health care. He is a member of the International Advisory Board of the Sambhavna Clinic which provides free health care to the survivors of the Union Carbide Chemical Disaster in Bhopal, India, and is a past co-Chair of the Seva Foundation. Mr. Cohen was awarded the Skoll Global Award for Social Entrepreneurship in 2006 and the Frank Hatch Award for Enlightened Public Service Award in 2007. Email: gcohenATigc.org

judithJUDITH ROBINSON is Associate Director. She has worked in environmental health for over 10 years, previously as director of a statewide environmental advocacy group focused on toxics and corporate accountability campaigns. She oversees EHF programs and manages administration issues with the Executive Director. She also co-coordinates a collaborative of 150 environmental health and justice groups, health professionals, scientists, labor advocates, faith groups, and disease service and prevention groups. The Coming Clean collaborative pursues inter-organizational strategies to transform the chemical dependent markets in the U.S., to leverage exposure science on chemicals into campaigns for precaution and health, to build support for synergistic chemical policy initiatives nationwide, and develop a coalition of environmental health and justice groups supporting toxic chemical substitution worldwide. Email: jrobinsonATenvironmentalhealthfund.org

ANDY IGREJAS is National Campaign Director. Before joining EHF, Igrejas headed the Environmental Health Program at the National Environmental Trust for seven years, and continued in the position when that organization merged with the Pew Charitable Trusts in 2008. In that role, Igrejas helped put chemical policy reform on the national agenda through work on the Kid-Safe Chemical Act. Igrejas also led NET’s work on chemical security, right–to-know, food safety, and California initiatives like the successful campaign for the Safe Cosmetics Act. Prior to NET, Igrejas, a native of Bloomfield, NJ, was a lobbyist and organizer for the Public Interest Research Groups in California and New Jersey, the California League of Conservation Voters and Californians for Pesticide Reform. LINDSAY DAHL
is Deputy Director of Safer Chemicals, Healthy Families. Before joining EHF Dahl directed policy and media strategy for the Healthy Legacy Coalition of Minnesota. In that capacity she lead the campaign for Minnesota to become the first state to ban bisphenol-A (BPA) and the fourth state to pass the beginnings of a comprehensive safer chemical policy framework. Lindsay coordinated Healthy Legacy’s lobby team, led and directed all aspects of moving bills through the legislature, and organized coalition partners on such efforts. janeJANE ROBINSON is Chief Financial Officer for EHF. Before joining EHF she worked as a CPA at two large public accounting firms, and currently serves on the board of various organizations. monicaMONICA ROHDE BUCKHORN, a 20-year veteran campaign organizer, who consults to the Funder Program and provides development services for the National Chemicals Policy Campaign. She works closely with the SAFER campaign (the State Alliance for Federal Reform of Chemicals Policy), providing strategic advice on campaigning, coalition process and development, and fundraising. Prior to EHF, Buckhorn worked with Health Care Without Harm for nine years where she served on the steering committee, worked on chemicals policy reform initiatives, and was a co-coordinator for the work on medical waste treatment and disposal issues. davidDAVID LEVINE is a consultant with the Environmental Health Fund, where his work is focused on building broad efforts around chemicals policy, environmental health, and sustainable solutions particularly through green chemistry and sustainable materials. In particular, he is building strategic partnerships and broad stakeholders initiatives to enable a shift towards an equitable and sustainable economy. Levine has over 25 years of experience as a social entrepreneur and nonprofit executive. His work has encompassed social enterprise start-ups, community and organizational development, popular education and workforce development, facilitation, and the catalyzing and building of collaborations across issue areas with a strong focus on sustainability. He sits on the steering committees of the Sustainable Biomaterials Collaborative, Maine Bioplastics Initiative, NYC Apollo Alliance, and the American Sustainable Business Council. kathleenKATHLEEN A. CURTIS coordinates the PBDE campaign. She has two decades of environmental health advocacy experience and is a widely recognized state-level and national leader. Kathy co-leads a collaborative of state and national policy organizers that together developed the federal policy guidance document: The Louisville Charter for Safer Chemicals. Curtis also co-founded the SAFER campaign. She serves on the New York State Taskforce on Flame Retardant Safety, is Chair of the Board of Unity Homes Inc. and board member for the Occupational Environmental Health Center of Eastern New York.

ROBIN NIKORA-DORSON is the Executive Administrative Assistant to Gary Cohen, the EHF staff and board, and manages the Environmental Health Fund’s Boston headquarters. Robin comes to us with more than five years experience supporting surgical oncology and medical oncology physicians at the Dana Farber/Brigham and Women’s Cancer Center. She also spent four years as Assistant to the President of the Unitarian Universalist Association and has held positions at Harvard and the Red Cross. She received her Bachelor’s Degree from Boston University in 1991.
